100 Meter Dash
Point Pleasant's Preston Taylor parlayed a great start into a controlling win in 11.29. Bluefield's Jacorian Green overcame a poor start, he was no better than 5th and perhaps only 7th at the 10 meter point, to come up to 2nd. He let off the gas just a bit at the end to finish 2nd in 11.54. Teammate Amir Hairston took the 3rd spot in 11.57. Sissonville's Braeden Murray was a very close 4th in 11.59. Fairmont Senior's Germaine Lewis took 5th in 11.74, just ahead of Weir's Devan Colson in 11.77.

200 Meter Dash
Bluefield's Jacorian Green got a good start this time and dominated the field in 22.49. Point Pleasant's Jonathan Griffin was the only other one to go under 23 seconds with his 22.92 for 2nd. Bluefield's Amir Hairston was 3rd in 23.22 with Oak Glen's Isaiah Franklin 4th in 23.40. Weir's Devan Colson was 5th in 23.46. Point Pleasant's Preston Taylor took the 6th spot in 23.53.

400 Meter Dash
Point Pleasant's Jonathan Griffin started taking control of the race about 150-170 meters in and steadily pulled away for the convincing win in 49.95. No one else came in under 51 seconds. Oak Glen's Matthew Greenlief was an easy 2nd in 51.20, over a second ahead over everyone else. Keyser's Seth Earnest claimed the 3rd spot in 52.50. Fairmont Senior's Grant Broadhurst edged out Keyser's Jack Stanislawczyk for 4th 52.87 to 52.89. Shady Spring's Jaedan Holstein won Heat 1 from Lane 1 to snag the 6th spot in 53.21. One of my predicted placers got nailed for a false start.

800 Meter Run
Winfield's Matthew Scheneberg led the field through in 58 seconds with Oak Glen's Konnor Allison leading a pack at 59 seconds. Winfield's Justin Lipscomb was in 3rd. Berkeley Spring's Jackson Mundey was in 4th. Oak Glen's Mason Konchar was in 5th, and Winfield's Brayden Marshall in 6th and PikeView's Braden Ward in 7th, with all coming through before the clock rolled over to 60. Scheneberg pulled away on the 2nd lap and took the win by over 2 seconds with a 1:57.24. Allison squeezed in under 2:00 for 2nd in 1:59.56. Fairmont Senior's Jasper Brown used a strong kick to claim the 3rd spot in 2:01.22. He was in 8th with 120 meters to go and still 7th with 100 to go. Lipscomb took 4th in 2:01.57 with Konchar right behind in 5th in 2:01.77 and Marshall in 6th in 2:01.91.

1600 Meter Run
The field was aggressive with Winfield's Matthew Scheneberg leading the way through the first lap in a quick 60 seconds. Winfield was holding the 2nd and 3rd spots as well with Brayden Marshall and Justin Lipscomb with Oak Glen's Konnor Allison in 4th with all three at 1:02. There were four more at 1:03 with Elkins' Charlie Smoak, Frankfort's Steven Kent Niland, Lewis' Slate Swiger and Frankfort's Garrett Ferguson holding those four spots. At the end of two laps, Scheneberg was will in front at 2:05. Marshall was in 2nd with Allison in 3rd, Smoak in 4th, Lipscomb in 5th, and Ferguson up to 6th. After three laps, Scheneberg remained in firm control, coming through in 3:11. Marshall was still in 2nd with Allison in 3rd, Smoak up to 4th, Ferguson in 5th, and Lipscomb in 6th. Scheneberg was not threatened on the final lap. The gap closed as the other 5 raced for 2nd, but he still took the win by nearly 3 seconds in 4:17.94. That gives him a tie for the 4th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance Allison had the strongest kick, taking the 2nd spot in 4:20.76, which is the 8thBest All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Marshall held the 3rd spot in 4:21.42 with Lipscomb giving Winfield 3 of the top 4 in a huge event for their team title hopes with his 4th place finish in 4:22.83. Ferguson held the 5th spot in 4:23.27. Smoak took the 6th position in 4:24.95 in a very fast race.

3200 Meter Run
Winfield's Matthew Scheneberg led the field out quickly. Teammate Brayden Marshall was in 2nd, holding close. Frankfort's Garrett Ferguson was in 3rd with Elkins' Charlie Smoak in 4th and Fairmont Senior's Jasper Brown in 5th. After two laps, Scheneberg had opened a gap, coming through in 2:15. Marshall was in 2nd at 2:18. Ferguson led the pack through in 3rd, with Smoak in 4th, Brown in 5th, and Frankfort's Steven Kent Niland in 6th, Frankfort's Luke Duncan in 7th, and Lewis' Slate Swiger in 8th, all at 2:21. After three laps, Scheneberg continued to extend his lead. Marshall remained in 2nd, Smoak was up to 3rd, Ferguson was in 4th, and Brown was in 5th. At the midway point, Scheneberg had taken his lead to over 10 seconds, coming through in 4:34. There was still a pack following. Smoak was in 2nd with Marshall in 3rd and Ferguson in 4th, with that group at 4:45. Brown was in 5th at 4:46. Swiger was in 6th at 4:47, and Niland was in 7th at 4:48. After 5 laps, it was still Scheneberg in front by a large margin. Smoak remained in 2nd, Marshall in 3rd, Ferguson in 4th, Brown in 5th, Swiger in 6th, Niland in 7th, and Oak Glen's Nick Gallo in 8th. After 6 laps, it was Scheneberg in 1st, Marshall up to 2nd, Ferguson up to 3rd, Smoak in 4th, Brown in 5th, Swiger in 6th, Poca's Landon Brumfield in 7th, Niland in 8th, and Gallo in 9th as placements were still very much up for grabs. At 7 laps, it was Scheneberg in the lead at 8:05. Marshall was in 2nd, Ferguson was in 3rd, Smoak in 4th, Brown in 5th, Swiger in 6th, and Brumfield in 7th. At the ened, Scheneberg took the win by over 12 seconds with a 9:15.48 which is the 4th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Marshall was easily 2nd in 9:28.01. Ferguson pulled away for the 3rd spot in 9:37.92. Brown moved up to 4th in 9:41.13. Smoak was 5th in 9:42.49. Brumfield moved into the final spot in 9:53.30. Swiger and Gallo also finished under 10:00.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Point Pleasant's Ian Wood got a good start and never trailed in taking the win in 15.51. Robert C. Byrd's Quinten Cooley closed really well for 2nd in 15.63. Sissonville's Jaunti Evans was 3rd in 16.04. Keyser's Lonnie Pridemore was a solid 4th in 16.44. Clay's Grant Young was 5th in 16.75. Lewis' Devon Perrine took the 6th spot in 16.83 on a solo re-run after he was interfered with in the original race. East Fairmont's Jaden Dawson was running 2nd when he fell and impeded Perrine.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Point Pleasant's Ian Wood moved to the front just past the halfway point and pulled away to win in 41.30. Winfield's Tyler Weiford took the 2nd spot in 41.91. Winfield's Aaron Verno dominated the 1st Heat to snag 3rd place in 42.67. Robert C. Byrd's Quinten Cooley was 4th in 42.81. Frankfort's Jonathan Lewis was 5th in 43.10, and Clay's Grant Young was 6th in 43.85.

4x100 Meter Relay
This was a close one and a fast one. Bluefield's Jacorian Green took them from 3rd to 1st with a stellar anchor leg as the foursome of Gaige Sisk, Amir Hairston, Sencere Fields, and Jacorian Green took the narrow win in 43.98. Point Pleasant took the 2nd spot in 44.01. Fairmont Senior led into the final exchange, but when the other two teams have the guys that finished 1-2 in the open 100, it can be a problem. They held the 3rd spot in a strong 44.33. Weir took the 4th position in 44.74. Oak Glen was 5th in 45.31. Keyser was 6th in 45.65.

4x200 Meter Relay
This one was close and fast as well with Bluefield's unit of Carter King, Amir Hairston, Gaige Sisk, and Jacorian Green taking the win in 1:30.47, which gives them the 9th Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Point Pleasant was a close 2nd in 1:30.79, just missing that top 10 list. These two were battling way ahead of the field. Weir was 3rd in 1:32.72. Winfield was 4th in 1:33.59. Keyser was 5th in 1:34.19, just ahead of North Marion in 6th in 1:34.25. Fairmont Senior was in the mix for a top 3 before dropping the baton on the final exchange.

4x400 Meter Relay
After the 1st leg, it appeared that Weir was in the lead with Berkeley Springs was in 2nd. Keyser was in 3rd with Winfield 4th, Bluefield 5th, and Point Pleasant in 6th. Berkeley Springs took the lead on the 2nd leg, coming through in 1:46. Winfield had moved up to 2nd in 1:48 with Bluefield and Point Pleasant matching that time in 3rd and 4th, respectively. Keyser was in 5th at 1:49. Weir was in 6th at 1:50. After three legs, Berkeley Springs had extended their lead, coming through at 2:39. Bluefield was up to 2nd at 2:42 with Winfield in 3rd at 2:43, Keyser up to 4th at 2:44, Fairmont Senior in 5th at 2:45 and Oak Glen up to 6th matching that time. On the final leg, Berkeley Springs maintained their advantage to give the group of Ben Golden, Tim Develing, Gabe McDonald, and Jackson Mundey the win in 3:32.57. Winfield held the 2nd spot in 3:35.52 to secure the team title. Point Pleasant got a sub-50 anchor leg from Jonathan Griffin to move from 7th to 3rd in 3:36.13. Bluefield took the 4th spot in 3:36.54. Keyser was 5th in 3:36.95. Oak Glen held the 6th spot in 3:38.31.

Winfield led the field through the 1st leg in 2:02. I think it was Berkeley Springs in 2nd at 2:05. I think PikeView was in 3rd, also at 2:05. Keyser was in 4th at 2:07 with Elkins and Fairmont Senior in 5th and 6th, respectively at 2:08. It remained close through 2 legs with Winfield leading at 4:09. Berkeley Springs was in 2nd at 4:10. Fairmont Senior was up to 3rd. Keyser was in 4th. Frankfort was in 5th at 4:20. I think PikeView was in 6th. On the 3rd leg, Winfield took over, stretching their lead to 7 seconds, coming through in 6:16. Berkeley Springs was in the 2nd spot in 6:23. Fairmont Senior was 3rd in 6:24. Keyser was 4th in 6:27. Frankfort was in 5th at 6:31. PikeView remained in 6th at 6:35. In the end, it was Winfield's group of Justin Lipscomb, Landen Bach, Adam Criser, and Brayden Marshall taking the win in 8:20.15. Fairmont Senior pulled away for an easy 2nd in 8:26.17. Keyser came up to 3rd in 8:34.12. Frankfort came up to 4th in 8:36.56. PikeView came up for 5th in 8:39.18. Berkeley Springs held on for 6th in 8:40.09.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Point Pleasant was 2 hurdles down after two legs but finished strong to give the unit of Reece Hunt, Luke Derenberger, Trey Peck, and Ian Wood the win by just under a second in 1:01.15. Sissonville took the 2nd spot in 1:02.14. Winfield grabbed 2nd out of the 3rd heat in 1:02.16. Oak Glen snagged 3rd out of the 3rd heat in 1:02.73. Keyser was 5th in 1:03.23. North Marion snared the 6th spot from the 2nd heat in 1:04.42 as there were several stumbles and falls in the event.

High Jump
North Marion's Tristan Glasscock was the only jumper to clear 6'2 in taking the win. Nicholas' Isaiah Miner and Keyser's Harris Boggs cleared 6'0 in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Point Pleasant's Cody Schultz and Lewis' Slate Swiger tied for 4th at 5'10. Sissonville's Jaxon Haynes was 6th, also at 5'10.

Pole Vault
Winfield's Ian Johnson took the win with a 13'6 vault. Point Pleasant's Cael McCutcheon cleared 13'0 for 2nd. Winfield's Cristian Penaloza and Marshall Villers each cleared 12'6 in taking 3rd and 4th, respectively. Robert C. Byrd's Logan Beeson cleared 11'0 for 5th with Keyser's Griffin Paugh also clearing 11'0 in taking 6th.

Long Jump
Poca's Nathan McVey was already in the lead, but saved the best for last, going 21'6.50 on his final jump for the win. Herbert Hoover's Nathan Harper sailed 20'9.25 on his 1st attempt and that stood for 2nd the rest of the way. Bluefield's Garrade Wade went 20'4.75 on his 1st attempt to take 3rd. North Marion's Tariq Miller was the last competitor to go beyond 20' with his jump of 20'1.50. Philip Barbour's Richard Webster was 5th with a 19'11 jump, and Point Pleasant's Luke Derenberger took the final spot with a 19'5.75.

Keyser's Gabriel Ryan scored the close win with a toss of 52'3.25. Point Pleasant's Cody Schultz sent one 52'2.50 on his final attempt to move into 2nd and nearly take the win. Poca's Anthony Dunbar also had his best throw on his final attempt to take 3rd with a 49'5.50. Poca's Benjamin Cox was 4th with a 48'5.75. Winfield's Brock Basham opened with a 46'2 for 5th. East Farmont's Dakota Dammeyer took the final spot with a 46'0.25.

Point Pleasant's Cody Schultz sailed three throws over 170', including his final toss of 179'4 to repeat as champions and win the event by almost 36'. That throw also stands as tied for the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and 2nd Best All-Time Class AA State Meet Performance. Poca's Shane Presley threw 143'6 for 2nd place. East Fairmont's Dakota Dammeyer threw 139'6 for 3rd. Poca's Anthony Dunbar thew 134'11 for 4th. Herbert Hoover's Josh Stuart threw 134'3 for 5th, and Poca's Anthony Belcher threw 132'1 for 6th.
